One hundred forty-nine years ago, Charles Darwin published his book "On the Origin of Species - by means of Natural Selection". Is was a readable book that shocked a lot of the scientific and non-scientific world with its theory.

Today, the book still stands as a remarkable text. Even without knowledge of DNA and modern genetics, many excellent points are made.

So let's have a beverage and review what he wrote. What has changed since he wrote it? How would the people of the day have taken the underlying meaning? How has the book evolved?

    I've found a couple of good videos on youtube from the BBC that cover the aftermath of Darwin's publication. http://www.youtube.com/watc... and the four other parts. Very interesting. Lots of discussion of social darwinism.
