Rabbi Adam Chalom, Dean of the International Institute of Secular Humanistic Judaism, will lead 3 lectures surveying the history of the Jewish People from tribal times through the establishment of all 5 branches of Judaism.

Session C: "Traumas and Triumphs of the Twentieth Century"

Cost: $30, or $60 for all three lectures.

Rabbi Adam Chalom, Dean of the International Institute of Secular Humanistic Judaism, will lead 3 lectures surveying the history of the Jewish People from tribal times through the establishment of all 5 branches of Judaism.

Join us for a haimish community shabbat dinner. Please e-mail insels@sbcglobal.net for a reservation form for the dinner only - when responding, please indicate chicken or vegetarian entree, and submit payment of $18 per adult congregation and meetup member, $20 per adult non-member, and $15 per full-time college student or child 10 and under.

Following dinner, Rabbi Adam Chalom, Dean of the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism, will keep off a weekend on the Evolution of Judaism, with a short shabbat service at 8 PM, and a talk on "Judaism: Creation or Evolution?". The service is free and open to the public.

Family-friendly Hanukkah program, lead by cantorial soloist Terry Lieberstein (see Terry's website at www.lovingstone.com). Hanukkah songs, games, and environmentally-friendly crafts. And, of course, latkes and other Hanukkah goodies.

ADAT CHAVERIM PRESENTS: Jewish Genes? The second in a series of lectures featuring some of the great minds of our time exploring reasoned thought and the history, culture and achievements of the Jewish people. Jon Entine author of Abraham's Children: Race, Identity, and the DNA of the Chosen People, an historical, anthropological, and genetic look at the Jewish people and their success will be the next featured guest. Entine is often described as a "public intellectual"- the rare individual in touch with business, political, and scientific trends and adept at translating the ideas of the future into the transformative practices of today.

Dan Ariely is the author of the critically acclaimed book "Predictably Irrational". When we make decisions we think we're in control, making rational choices. But are we? Entertaining and surprising, Ariely unmasks the subtle but powerful tricks that our minds play on us.

President-Elect Marci Goldberg has created and will lead this service, which will begin with a short children's program (after which the kids will adjourn to the lobby for a holiday-related craft). Cantorial Soloist Earl Shiffman will sing, accompanied by pianist Trudi Behar.

This service is the third in our High Holiday series - tickets for all three events are $100 per person for non-congregation members.
